I thought it may be useful to share with you my personal journey on the road to adoption. If anyone else would like to share their experiences we will be happy to publish them.
My husband Mark and I adopted our two children in 2006 when they were 3 and five. The process from the initial start of wanting to adopt, then being interviewed to see if we are suitable, to then being approved at the adoption panel and then finally meeting your children is tough, let alone when the children are placed with you and you (and they) need lots of help, patience and understanding.
We met some great people along the way - other adopters and social workers and without these people our journey would have been even harder.
We wanted to wish the other adopters well on their panel day and also thank our social workers with cards but there was nothing available in the shops to match our criteria.
The same applied when we adopted our children and people wanted to send us congratulation cards; shops just don't have anything suitable.
We also wanted to send announcement cards out to friends and family, the same way people do when they have had a baby.
When we went to court to make the adoption legal, we looked for appropriate cards to send to our children as we were so happy that they now belonged to our family.
As none of these cards were available to buy anywhere I decided to set up this website so people in the same position as us could send the cards they wanted. I'm now also looking into selling gifts and hampers to children and their adoptive parents in just the same way as gifts are sent when celebrating the 'normal' arrival of a child into a birth family.
Please do let me know what you think of my site - I would love to hear from you
